INTERIOR PLANTS

INTERIOR PLANTS: DECORATION WITH BENEFITS

Placing plants indoors was first practised by the ancient Greeks and Romans, who began to bring plants from outdoors into their homes. Today, it is a popular trend, for personal and professional spaces.

A broadleaf near the living room window, a fern on the shelf above the bathroom sink or a swordleaf in the reception of a professional office, all can radically change the feeling of the overall atmosphere of the room when we enter it.

It is well known that a plant can highlight the existing decoration and illuminate interesting corners, enhancing the character we have chosen for the particular room. The existence of plants, however, is not only an additional element of decoration, but can positively affect the psychology of the individuals within it, offering countless benefits to their physical health.

  1. A Valuable Source of Oxygen

The oxygen released by plants is necessary for the proper functioning of the human body. During photosynthesis, plants absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and produce oxygen. Consequently, the presence of plants keeps the flow of oxygen constant, while cleansing the atmosphere of the area..

  1. Green Power and Health

Water, which plants draw up from their roots, evaporates from their leaves through transpiration. Frequent studies have attributed 10% of atmospheric moisture to plant transpiration. Understandably, indoor plants increase humidity levels while reducing the chances of dry skin, colds, sore throats and coughs.

Also, research has shown that various inflictions, which are often associated with the workplace (such as headache, severe cough, skin irritation, etc.), can be reduced by up to 25% on average, with the presence of plants in the interior spaces.

  1. A "Physical Filter" in Decoration

Research conducted by NASA claims that indoor plants can remove small concentrations of chemicals – such as carbon monoxide and formaldehyde – both through their leaves and through their roots in the soil.

They are therefore an ideal natural way of recycling the air of a room and particularly friendly for the environment thanks to their ability to absorb toxic organic compounds.

  1. Productivity Increasement through "Green Power"

Who would have thought that the decoration of a room could affect our work and our efficiency within it?

And yet, studies by the University of Michigan recognized the positive contribution of plants to concentration and memory up to 20%. Evidence reveals that any work performed under the natural influence of indoor plants is usually of a higher quality and completed more successfully than in an artificial environment.

In addition, it has been argued that the presence of natural plants in a space contributes to the reduction of tension and stress. Their soothing role, combined with their ability to reduce noise in the environment they are in, can lead to an increase in productivity of up to 12%.
